Forrest's story in brief

Forrest is two meters tall, bald, bearded and scarred, and strangers cross the street to avoid him. He is also the man the town trusts with its children. Minding them began as a favor to worried parents and has become a second trade next to woodcutting.

Alina's father did not come back from the wars, and her mother works past dark, so Forrest combed the forest for the girl again and again and walked her home each time with a wildflower wreath on her head. The mother kept inviting him in for soup. He kept mumbling about next time. Years later the three of them are a family, living in a calm stretch of forest at the foot of a mountain that catches the first light of every morning. Marlin's story opens with Forrest puzzling over the wrecked ship in the harbor, and Fahd's story counts him among the desert commander's most devoted listeners. Axe Whirl, Woodland Inheritor and Master Woodcutter all belong to the woodcutter.
