Long Fei's story in brief
Long Fei's story opens outside of time, where an Elder tells a young man that he is there to understand a choice he has already made. The young man asks for the red one. He feels the mortal wound in his side fade away, thinks of his wife and family, and wakes to someone shouting that Long Fei is alive.
Years later he walks into a market town in neat training clothes, with a bronze beast for a belt and a deep red gourd that will not open. His master says it opens only when the time is right. He stumbles through the crowd without touching anyone. A gray-haired stonemason with twin swords confronts him at the gate, tests him with steel and comes away with respect, then takes his lost master for Marlin, a name Long Fei has never heard. The stumbling walk is the basic footwork of his sect. It is called Above And Beyond, which is also one of his Conquest skills, and his first skill, Ambrosia, fits the gourd.
